Check into whether or not you need a visa to work in Germany, and if yes, which type

Who does not need a visa? In the Schengen area, nationals of the 26 member states of the European Union (EU) are permitted to reside and work without restriction.

Who needs a visa? All non-European citizens (including those from the United Kingdom) are required to obtain a visa to work in Germany. A tourist visa grants 90 days of entry and stays permission to nationals of specific countries. During this time, you are not permitted to work, but you may seek employment and/or petition for a visa. A visa application is required for foreign nationals to enter Germany, thereby adding complexity and protraction to the visitation procedure.

Those who do not hold EU citizenship should review Germany’s visa regulations to ascertain the specifics of their situation. You can determine which visa is most suitable for you once you have ascertained whether a visa is necessary. A job applicant visa, a Blue Card, or a regular work permit may all be within your eligibility criteria.

Numerous visas require verification of vocational training or a university diploma, among other provisions. Possessing pertinent work experience and/or skills instead of a degree, an immigration attorney might be able to assist you in acquiring a visa. You can collaborate with the HR department of a company that has extended you an offer to work on a compelling case that will assist in having your visa application approved.

Determine if further education is required and if yes, what you need to do

You might possess years of pertinent work experience and a highly educated background in the aforementioned in-demand fields. However, that does not mean you can simply arrive in Germany and begin working without delay.

Numerous occupations in Germany require formally recognized professional credentials (Berufsqualifikation), including teaching, law, and nursing. International credentials are evaluated in Germany by the Central Office for International Education (ZAB). You may be required to take an assessment exam or a conversion course to demonstrate your credentials if they are not recognized. It is important to observe that qualifications vary from state to state in Germany. Despite the challenges you face in obtaining recognition for your qualifications, there remains a beacon of hope. Figure out if German fluency is required and if yes, how much

Although English is increasingly being used in the workplace and some occupations in Berlin do require proficiency in the language, German remains the mandatory language for 96% of all positions in Germany.

Beyond it, there is no way out. Certain occupations and organizations require proficiency in the German language. Conduct an inquiry into the necessary qualifications for your chosen profession. Employers can determine the stringency of language requirements by examining job postings. It may not be a prerequisite for employment for software developers to speak German, whereas nurses are required to be fluent in the language.

Determine the best German city or region for your profession

Even though this website discusses job hunting and relocating to Berlin, Berlin may not be the ideal location or city for you. For instance, the employment market in Stuttgart, Munich, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, or Hamburg might be more favorable to you.

Proficiently utilize Google by entering “best German cities to work as an insert profession here>.” In general, the outcomes will encompass a plethora of informative and engaging material. Several German cities can also be compared on employment platforms including Xing, LinkedIn, and Indeed. For instance, while Munich may have 500 available positions, Berlin may only have 75.

Consider that if your employer offers remote work, it might be feasible to reside in a German city such as Berlin while performing work for a German-based organization. Consult your organization to determine what options are accessible. This comprehensive information will assist you in identifying the regions of Germany that offer the most favorable career prospects.
