Nigeria, along with other countries that possess substantial youth populations, has the opportunity to exploit the existing skills deficit in the United Kingdom (UK). A new report by Erudera, a global university and academic program search platform, identifies a compilation of prestigious academic degrees and occupations that are adequately prepared to address the scarcity in the United Kingdom and satisfy market demands.

“This is primarily due to factors such as the skill requirements of the job (which are aligned with the degree) and the degrees typically held by professionals currently employed in the respective professions,” according to the report.

The United Kingdom has adopted a flexible approach towards immigration routes as part of its economic development and withdrawal strategy, which can be attributed, in part, to its exit from the European Union (Brexit). There were numerous middle- and entry-level employment openings in the country as a result of the withdrawal.

Among the new routes are the graduate route, the high-potential individual visa, the global talent visa, and the scale-up visa. From 1,998 to 13,448, the number of Nigerians granted UK work visas increased by 574,8 percent.

• Metropolitan areas of London and the South East (England) have the highest density of architectural employment prospects. Additionally, they offer the most favorable employment prospects for architects in search of work.
• As per the governmental projections of the United Kingdom, employment prospects within the sector are anticipated to increase by 4.3 percent by 2027, translating into an estimated 2,900 additional job opportunities.
• It is anticipated that 55.3% of the current workforce will retire during the aforementioned time frame, leading to the emergence of 37,700 job openings.
• The Architects Registration Board (ARD) of the United Kingdom has identified an imbalance in the distribution of architects, stating that London and the South East are home to half of all architects, while the proportion of the population residing in these regions is only 27%.
• “To register as an architect in the United Kingdom, individuals with qualifications from outside the European Union or non-recognized British qualifications must pass the ARB’s Examination for Equivalence to Prescribed Qualifications,” Erudera stated.
